Somewhere between a finished artwork and a finished mat, there is a slow, unglamorous stage that nobody sees. The strike off.
A strike off is a test print. A single print to test the colours and the art.
This is the part of the process that takes the longest and shows the least. There is no way to photograph patience. But it is the reason a SunHawk mat can sit on your floor for years to come.
What We Are Making
The Second Wave is focused on a collaboration with Melbourne-based botanical folk artist Soph Rowe, whose work we have been drawn to for its restraint as much as its detail. Pressed-flower colours, hand-drawn lines. It comes in two forms, a 5mm mat for the home studio and a 1mm travel mat for the ones who take their practice with them.
New Ways to Travel
Alongside the collaboration, two new 1mm travel mat designs join the range. Built for the same fold-flat, throw-in-a-tote practicality as our first travel mat, in art that feels less like sportswear and more like something you would choose to leave rolled out on the hotel floor.
Why The Wait?
Fifty of each print, when a design is made at all. It is simply how the mats are made. Small runs, considered colourways, nothing rushed through a factory line to sit in a warehouse. We would rather make forty mats we are proud of and give your something special.
What This Means for You
The Second Wave lands late July. If you want first access before the general collection goes live, the waitlist is the way in. We will not be running a countdown timer or a flash sale.
